Our Deals Editor’s tips for shopping with Appliances Online
With so many products and leading brands, Appliances Online is a great place to shop for tech upgrades and whitegoods (fridges, washers, ovens, you name it). But I know the feeling of being overwhelmed by choices, so my tip is really about focus.
Whenever I’m shopping for a new appliance – be it a new kettle or something as big as a fridge – I tend to start by thinking about the features I want, the brands I trust and then how much I’m willing to pay for it. That makes it a lot easier to go to a shop and find a few items to compare before landing on the ideal one. I also think it’s a great approach for stores like Appliances Online, where there’s a lot of choice and plenty of deals.
Which brings me to another key tip: compare the prices at other stores. The reason I do this is because Appliances Online shows their price and the recommended retail price (RRP) provided by the manufacturer. But they state “we barely ever sell at the RRP as we always aim to give our customers everyday low prices”. I’ve found other retailers also have prices lower or different to the RRP, too.
Then there are delivery costs. The LG 642L InstaView fridge I compared earlier had free delivery with Appliances Online, as well as free connection and removal of an old fridge. LG also offered free delivery, with an optional $40 old appliance removal fee. But with the other retailers I checked – including The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman – delivery to central Sydney was between $59 for basic delivery to $89 for delivery, connection and old appliance removal. So remember: if you find it cheaper elsewhere but want to take advantage of Appliances Online’s free delivery service, you can always request a price match.
