The sheer volume of brands, products, features and ratings can all get a bit too much. I don’t think I’ve ever been on Amazon and not seen some kind of product discount or offer.

Amazon Prime is a subscription service that costs $9.99 a month and unlocks member benefits including Prime Day sale deals that can be up to 70% off in some cases.
I actually visited the Amazon Australia offices for the launch of Prime Day in July 2026, and saw some of the top deals available for the week-long sale (July 7-13). Including up to 35% off select products from cult-fave K-Beauty brand Laneige (one of Woman’s Day Shopping Content Producer and beauty aficionado Maddy Wilson’s favourite brands), 39% off this ghd hair straightener and 73% off this Dreame robot vacuum, which translates to a saving of over $2000 on the recommended retail price (RRP).

Four more ways to save with Amazon Australia
- Subscribe and save: You can get a discount of up to 10% for eligible items with the Subscribe & Save option. Think toothpaste, moisturiser, shampoo and conditioner, supplements, toilet paper and pet food. It’s easy to set up and you can cancel any time, but get the savings from the first order. It’s one of my favourite ways to save, especially for essentials that I’ve checked are cheaper on Amazon than at the supermarket. I’ve even seen Subscribe & Save available for some of Amazon Australia’s K-Beauty range, like Dr Reju masks and Biodance Sea Kelp Gel Toner Pads.
- Amazon app offers: Amazon offers app-only discounts and deals for customers, including $10 off your first purchase in the app when I was looking in July 2026. I also found discount codes for two different robot vacuums during Amazon Prime Day – and each one added a 5% discount to the already reduced sale prices.
- Wish lists: Because Amazon has deals and sales so often, I like to create lists for different items I want to buy and then check them when there’s a sale (or just whenever I’m on the site).
- Amazon Prime annual subscription: If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can save $40.88 by getting an annual subscription for $79 compared to paying the $9.99 monthly subscription fee for a year ($9.99 for 12 months equals $119.88).

Amazon promo code FAQs
Sometimes you might find an Amazon promo code when you’re looking at a particular product on the site. Usually, you just need to login, click “Redeem” next to the coupon to activate it and then add the product to cart. You’ll see the savings when you go to the checkout. Here’s an example from a code I added in the Amazon app.
This was a promo code for customers in the UK that offered £5 off an order of £25 when the code AMAZONUK25 was entered at the checkout.
But it expired in 2023, and wouldn’t have worked in Australia anyway. This actually brings up an important point about Amazon promo codes – if you search for them online, keep in mind that some codes may be for Amazon stores in other countries, not Amazon AU. An easy way to avoid this is to check Amazon or come back here for promo codes and deals that actually work.
Yes, Amazon allows promo codes and actively includes them on product pages. On the Amazon Australia mobile site, you’ll even find relevant offers and discounts listed after the product images and price, and before delivery details. As an example, last week I was looking at electric kettles and found one with five different offers that could give me a discount – including a promo code applied at the checkout and one through the app. Some of these codes are targeted, meaning you’re more likely to find them logged in. Amazon sales and member FAQs
Amazon Australia has regular sales, including a deals page that’s updated daily with limited-time promotions. But I’ve found some of the biggest savings are during major sales including EOFY, Black Friday/Cyber Monday and Boxing Day. Plus Amazon’s own sales, including Prime Day, Big Smile Sale and Big Day Deals.
For example, during the Amazon Big Smile Sale from March 16-22, 2026, discounts included 70% off an ECOVACS DEEBOT T30S Pro robot vacuum, 56% off the Tineco Floor ONE Stretch S6 wet and dry vacuum cleaner, 41% off a Dyson Airwrap and 52% off COSRX Snail Mucin Essence.
Amazon Prime membership offers the most value to people who regularly shop on the site and/or want to stream some of the most popular movies and shows out there. For example, I’ve previously seen savings of 70% off the recommended retail prices of new tech gear, fitness, fashion, homeware and more during the member-only Prime Day sale. And Prime Video has critically acclaimed and fan favourite Amazon Original The Boys, Reacher, Mr. & Mrs Smith and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
But on the other hand, someone who only shops on Amazon a couple of times a year and doesn’t want another streaming service might find that Prime isn’t really worth it. If you’re unsure, Amazon Prime’s free 30-day trial is one way to try it for a month to decide if you think it’s worth it.
No! You can shop on Amazon without paying for Prime membership but you do need to create a free account to place your order. Amazon account holders without Prime membership also don’t get access to Prime Day deals or other member exclusives.
Amazon Prime Day is exclusively for paying Amazon Prime subscribers, but there are other sales and deals that anyone can shop. This includes Amazon Australia’s Big Smile Sale and a selection of daily deals.
The surprising reason I have two Amazon accounts
As a Deals Editor, it’s my job to find the best value promo codes and other offers out there. Specifically for Australia, but in the case of Amazon I actually know it beyond our borders, from years ago when I lived in Canada. So I’ve tracked Amazon’s growth around the world with the curiosity that comes naturally to a journalist.
But I kept my Canadian account open not only because of my professional interest in how it compared to Amazon Australia, but also because I have close family who still live there. So I’ve bought all kinds of things on Amazon – from cycling gear and camping lights to kids’ clothes, toys, kitchen gadgets and outdoor cushions. I’ve also been saved by the fast delivery services more than once, especially when I accidentally leave gifts to the last minute.
After switching back and forth between my accounts, I’ve come up with a few shortcuts that might also help others:
- The reviews can be really useful. Here in Australia, I tend to trust products more when there are reviews from other Aussies (especially for electronics, in case a plug is difference).
- The best seller lists are a great starting point for any comparison – you can find them by going to the ‘Item details’ section (if and when there’s a relevant category).
- Big brands like Dyson, KitchenAid and La Roche-Posay have their own virtual storefronts on Amazon. So I’ll go straight there if I’m looking for a deal with a particular brand.
