Hugh Jackman might have been answering a light-hearted question about his new film, but one answer has reportedly hit a nerve with the women in his life.

In The Death of Robin Hood, Hugh plays an ageing Robin haunted by his violent past alongside Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård. While promoting the film, the actor was asked to name his character’s biggest green flag and red flag.

The good? “Hunting. Helpful, right? If you’re hungry, he’s the guy you want,” Hugh told History Extra.

But it was his red flag pick that raised eyebrows.

“Commitment,” he said.

Now insiders tell Woman’s Day the quip has reportedly upset both his ex-wife Deborra-lee Furness and his girlfriend Sutton Foster.

Deb, who married Hugh in 1996 and spent 27 years with him before their split was announced in September 2023, is said to be particularly unimpressed.

“Deb is annoyed for obvious reasons – why didn’t Hugh choose ‘violence’ or ‘lying’ as Robin Hood’s bad trait?” a source reveals. “Instead he picked the one thing people have already projected onto him. As far as Deb is concerned, Hugh knows very little of commitment.”

Why Sutton is upset by Hugh’s comment

It’s Sutton who’s said to be feeling it most. The Broadway star, who first starred opposite Hugh in The Music Man in 2022 before the pair went public with their romance in January 2025, is “a bit miffed too” according to an insider close to her, as Hugh allegedly continues to push for a wedding date.

“He’s begging her to set a wedding date, but she’s now worried what the kind of commitment really means to Hugh,” the insider says. “She doesn’t want to be in Deb’s position in five or 10 years’ time.”

The pair made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Song Sung Blue closing night gala premiere in October 2025, and Hugh reportedly insisted she join him again at the Twiggy premiere on September 16. But the pressure is piling on.

“Sutton’s finding everything overwhelming,” the insider adds. “She’s still torn between a life of anonymity and signing her life over to the Jackman empire.”
