Married cattle station managers Adam and Jolene pride themselves on quality over short cuts. But, when Main Bedroom and Walk-in Robe Week on The Block is thrown into chaos after they lose their plasterer, they are determined not to compromise their own high standards.
“We always tried to keep the quality of our workmanship to the highest standard,” Jolene, 42, tells TV WEEK.
“That was more important to us than a fancy design element. If we had to pare back our design to finish a room properly, then that’s what we were going to do.”
It’s a philosophy the South Australia couple say wasn’t always rewarded by the judges.
“Courtney and Sev have got an amazing eye for design,” Jolene says.
“But I felt like in Bathroom Week, we were robbed. The quality let it down – it wasn’t finished. And that’s where the judges really set the tone for the entire season.”
For Adam, 48, it was the moment they stopped trying to predict what the judges wanted.
“That was the head-scratching moment,” he says. “And there’s more of them to come this season.”
Will sticking to their guns finally pay off, or are Adam and Jolene destined for another disappointing result in one of the biggest spaces in the house?
The Block airs Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 7pm on Nine Network and 9Now.
