Luke Packham reveals how reality TV backlash changed him

Luke Packham copped plenty of criticism during his time on The Block alongside twin brother Josh. The experience ultimately led him to step away from social media for a period and focus on what mattered most.

“There were one or two times on The Block when the comments did get overwhelming, because I’d be getting some pretty heavy abuse each night,” the 31-year-old tells TV WEEK.

“I made the choice to step away from social media because I think you can get caught up in it. For me, my mental health, my family, and my business come first. No one can give me more validation than my kids.”

That’s why The Traitors appealed to Luke. Rather than focusing on the drama, he was drawn to the strategy.

But, this week, the lines blur during a game of the seven deadly sins, where ‘the chosen’ must match each player to a deadly sin, with some contestants taking the results more personally than expected.

“It was interesting to see how people responded to being put in a bracket,” Luke recalls.

“Some people took it personally. Feelings were hurt, but it was not designed to do that. It’s about game play and seeing who will crack first under pressure.”

The Traitors Australia airs Tuesday and Wednesday at 7.30pm on Network Ten and 10Streaming.
