Michelle Bridges on the joys of being a mum

She’s a mother, an author, a TV personality and a trainer, but of the many parts Michelle Bridges plays, being a mother is no doubt her favourite.

“It’s got to be the most heavenly thing I’ve ever experienced in my whole life,” coos health and fitness ambassador, Michelle Bridges as we present her with the near-impossible task of pin-pointing the one thing she loves most about being a mum to son Axel.

“It’s a really great experience and I’m loving every minute of it.”

This is what else we learnt when we sat down with Michelle for a chat.

On baby Axel

The darling one-year-old, who appears every bit the spitting image of his Commando daddy, Steve Willis, no doubt has wonderful parents and role-models in the Biggest Loser alums, who plan on passing down three very important lessons.

“Along with healthy nutrition, I would like him to simply be active – not just by the way of formal exercise – but just to be active.

“And in terms of character building, I’d really like him to be kind.”

On her relationship

Kindness is a quality Michelle so appreciates in partner Steve, as in humour, she tells us.

Explaining how she manages to preserve her relationship throughout her action-packed life, she says: “It’s something all of us have to manage. Just like your garden, you have to maintain it!

“The most important thing for us is to be able to have a laugh, you need to be able to have a laugh, especially if you’ve got kids and a crazy lifestyle.

“It’s also important to be grateful to have each other in your life, to be able to look at each other and say ‘aren’t we lucky’”.

On fitting in a workout

The 46-year-old, who’s renowned on social media for her adorable mumma-bubba workouts, goes on to explain the way in which she instilled her own fitness habits, in a bid to assist any new mums out there who may desire that little bit of guidance.

“Get organised and have some habits and routines in place. Getting into that daily groove with save you, and in my experience really seems to work!

“Just like you make your bed, brush your hair and take a shower, you get into the habits of eating healthy foods and fitting in that at-home exercise when your baby is asleep.

Her secret motivation? DVDs! “I do them when he’s asleep, and they’re great! I can pack in an hour’s workout in the time he’s down for a nap.”

On feeding her family

While she says she loves to whip up a wholesome meal, Michelle is the first to admit that sometimes, life just gets in the way.

“I’m a fan of cooking, but I’m also a realist. I know not everybody cooks every single night, and not always do you have the groceries, capacity and time.” This is where Michelle’s latest venture, Delicious Nutritious comes in.

Her new range of nutritionally-balanced ready meals boast no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, a four-star health rating, and at $7.99 each, are a great “backup plan” the family can enjoy fuss-free.

Michelle Bridges’s Delicious Nutritious ready meals are available now in at Woolworths. Keep an eye out in the deli section for her favourite: Beef & Barley Casserole with Roasted Vegetables!
