Mia has rubbed a few of the other Big Brother contestants the wrong way with her outspoken opinions, but it is a part of her personality she has only recently learnt to embrace.
“I was actually really shy growing up and found it hard to believe my voice and opinions mattered,” the 23-year-old tells TV WEEK.
“I thought I needed to fit in and not stand out. In my twenties I have found so much confidence and self-belief from knowing who I am and remembering to be kind to myself.”

Mia is a uni student, a Bunnings assistant and a South Asian woman. She is passionate about diversity, inclusivity and representation on Aussie screens, despite her heritage not always having been an easy part of her identity.
“Being second-generation Australian with Sri Lankan heritage was difficult to navigate growing up,” Mia admits. “People either saw me as too brown – or whitewashed. I struggled with having two cultural identities.
“Now I embrace all that I am. Growing up in Australia has made me who I am, and I am so lucky to have my Sri Lankan culture that adds so much meaning to my life.“
Last week in the Big Brother house, we saw Mia get into a few terse conversations with fellow housemates Bruce and Michael about traditional gender roles.
Big Brother house, fans have watched on as Mia’s crush on fellow housemate Ed reaches all new heights.
