Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made small steps to repair relations with King Charles after years of royal tensions, but in one swift move, the controversial couple hope to jump leaps and bounds.
According to royal insider Rob Shuter, multiple sources have spilled that serious discussions are underway about whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should issue a public apology as a last-ditch attempt to rebuild trust with King Charles and the Royal Family.
“This isn’t about Harry and Meghan admitting they were wrong about everything,” an insider told Naughty But Nice. “It’s about acknowledging that the past five years have caused enormous pain. The debate now is over what an apology should say – and, just as importantly, what it shouldn’t.”
These claims follow a breakthrough in July 2026, when Harry and Meghan took Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Highgrove for a private meeting with Charles and Queen Camilla. It was the King’s first reported reunion with his grandchildren since 2022, with Buckingham Palace describing the gathering simply as a “private family occasion”.
The meeting followed earlier peace efforts, including talks between senior aides and Harry publicly declaring in 2025 that he wanted “reconciliation” with his family.
But according to royal sources, repairing years of public damage will take more than a few conversations to heal the family’s deep wounds.

Rebuilding years of broken trust won’t be easy. Since stepping back as working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan have repeatedly aired grievances about the monarchy publicly.
Far removed from the unofficial royal family motto to “never complain, never explain”, the couple have spent the past six years doing just that.
Their explosive 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview included claims that Meghan felt unsupported by the institution and that conversations had taken place about their unborn child’s skin colour.
Their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan offered further criticism of palace life, while Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare exposed some deeply personal family disputes, including his fractured relationship with Prince William.
After years of rogue interviews, books and documentaries, a public apology could be what’s needed for the Sussexes to regain King Charles’ trust.
“Everyone agrees trust has to be rebuilt,” a source told Naughty But Nice. “The challenge is finding language that gives the King the respect he wants without forcing Harry and Meghan to walk back every interview, documentary, or page of Spare.”
Apparently, several versions of potential statements have already been drafted, which will pull focus away from the specific allegations the couple previously made and instead speak to their feelings of regret over the family divide.
“An apology doesn’t have to be a surrender,” a palace source said. “It’s an acknowledgment that this family feud went too far. Charles wants peace — but he also wants respect. This could be the first real step toward both.”
