There’s no doubt Bennifer 2.0 hasn’t been the happiest of reunions, as rumours continue to swirl that all is not well in Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s short marriage.
The couple have been plagued with problems since tying the knot in front of family and friends at his Georgia mansion in 2022, and now friends fear they’ve been hit by the Bennifer curse once again!
GOING SOLO?
The 54-year-old singer, who was spotted house hunting solo last week, hasn’t been seen out with Ben, 51, since March, and fans were shocked to see her going to the Met Gala recently without her fourth hubby. A video of her encounter with a reporter at the event has gone viral on TikTok, with many questioning why she seemed so short-tempered.
“No one expected her to go to Tom Brady’s roast with Ben last month, but the Met Gala?” says a stunned insider.
“That’s like a fun date night for them. He should have been by her side, not back in LA with his ex-wife and kids. It’s very worrying and won’t do anything to stop those awful ‘Bennifer curse’ rumours.”
Ben and Jen famously called off their 2003 wedding following the flop of their movie Gigli and a backlash against their alleged “manicured PDAs”.
After starting families with doomed marriages, the pair made headlines again after she dumped her then-fiance, baseball star Alex Rodriguez, to give Ben another chance.
And despite their whirlwind dream wedding, extended honeymoon and a year of apparent loved-up bliss, the situation has been a disaster for their careers. Ben faced a string of misfires, while Jen is under pressure to cancel her upcoming tour due to poor ticket sales.
Her much-touted $30 million vanity project This Is Me… Now: A Love Story was regarded as a complete flop by fans and critics.
“It’s a disaster for both of them,” says a long time friend. “And a whole new world for Jen, whose tours always sell out. It’s definitely taken the shine off their union – neither of them do well with failure.”
NO MIDDLE GROUND
Sources confirm the couple decided to keep their private life as low-key as possible this year over fears of another Gigli-style backlash.
“Jen’s team have been worried Ben’s distracting from her brand,” adds the insider. “But what started out as sound business advice earlier this year – to simply cool it with the double act – is rumoured to have turned into a feature of their marriage.
“They’ve been running solo for months, on opposite sides of the country, and she was just in Paris with the kids and even spent Mother’s Day with friends and not Ben.
“No one wants to see this marriage fail. They went through so much to get to this point – their beautiful house, their blended families and the real feelings they have for each other – but they’re such different people.
“It’s exactly why it didn’t work out last time. She’s a gym maniac, while he loves relaxing and watching sport. She’s a workaholic 24/7/365, he’s way more laid-back. She’s also a perfectionist, which is bad news for Ben, who can’t write when he’s feeling stifled.
“The only thing they do have in common is they’re both very vain, which is why playing the role of glamorous power couple was one of the thrills of their relationship.
“With that gone, so has a lot of the fun. J.Lo devoted her entire album and movie to this love story – and rumours are circling that the real thing might flop like the screen version!”
