Chariots of Fire


If historical dramas are more up your alley, look no further than Chariots of Fire which is based on a true story.

This movie is about two athletes who couldn’t be more different – one being a Scottish Christian named Eric Liddell and the other being an English Jew named Harold Abrahams.

Eric and Harold compete as runners in the 1924 Olympics and they both return home to the religiously-divided United Kingdom with gold medals.

Eddie the Eagle


A relatively new movie, Eddie the Eagle is a biographical comedy-drama that tells the story of British skier Michael “Eddie” Edwards.

During the 1988 Winter Olympics, Eddie became the first skier to represent Great Britain in ski jumping in 60 years.

Despite not taking home any medals, he became the British ski jumping record holder and won over the hearts of the nation.

Another wholesome Disney movie, Miracle tells the story of Herb Brooks, the American hockey coach who transformed a group of college athletes into an Olympic squad that was able to defeat the expected victors, the Soviet team, to claim gold.

A much more heavy and devastating film, this documentary looks back at the 2016 USA Gymnastics scandal after it was discovered that the national team doctor Larry Nassar had been sexually abusing the young athletes for decades.

Starring Australia’s very own Margot Robbie, I, Tonya is a biographical film that follows the life story of Tonya Harding who was a competitive figure skater.

Foxcatcher is a biographical sports film with an all-star cast including Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell.
