When farmer Dylan chose Ally over Scarlett in Sunday night’s episode of Farmer Wants A Wife, Scarlett could accept that. What was harder to accept was Dylan bringing her upbringing into his decision, saying he couldn’t provide the lifestyle she was used to.
“When Dylan said that I felt very misunderstood,” Scarlett, 22, tells TV WEEK. “I have been so fortunate in life, in how I’ve been brought up. I lived in Hong Kong until I was 12, I went to boarding school in the UK, and I then went to boarding school in France. But in no way do I ever expect a partner to upkeep the lifestyle I’ve come from. That is my job to upkeep that.”

Scarlett says she’s lucky to have experienced that lifestyle, but that’s not what she wants.
“I want true love and I want something that’s genuine. I don’t want the fancy cars and I don’t want the designer handbags. Literally, a guy could propose to me with a Ring Pop and I would be happy.”
Scarlett explained these things to 24-year-old Dylan after he met her family and realised what kind of background she came from, but then he still talked about her lifestyle in his final decision.
“It was a bit of a shot in the gut, that’s for sure, because I definitely have been misunderstood before in terms of that,” Scarlett says. “I’m not a superficial person. I’m just so much more than what I’ve been brought up with and the lifestyle that I’ve lived.”

Scarlett says her family did really like Dylan – a rodeo cowboy as well as a sheep farmer – when they met him, but they had their concerns.
“I think my family, when they did meet Dylan, they were thinking that it wasn’t going to work out,” she explains. “My family really want me to succeed in terms of my career and what I want to do, and I think they felt like I would be living someone else’s dream rather than my own. So I think that’s one of the things that concerned them a little bit.”

So what’s Scarlett been up to since Farmer Wants A Wife? She’s given up polo to focus on her university studies – and a month or two after filming finished, she got into a new relationship.
“But unfortunately, that did end right when the show was airing,” she reveals. “So that was a very tough time for me. I was trying to balance a breakup where my trust had been broken and also balancing that the whole world was about to see me on national TV. It wasn’t fun.
“At the moment I’m just focusing on myself, on healing.”
Scarlett is still in regular contact with both Ally and Dylan.
“Dylan is one of my closest friends and same with Ally.”
