Rita Ora has been singing the praises of the “new chapter” she and husband Taika Waititi are in after tying the knot in 2022.
However, the 33-year-old popstar probably wasn’t expecting this latest plot twist.
Taika’s ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley made cryptic comments in a recent interview, sparking speculation about what really ended her seven-year marriage to the Thor: Ragnarok director.
“I didn’t want to be the dutiful wife and race over to the Gold Coast, where he was making Thor, and sit in an apartment all day long… twiddling my thumbs, and bring the kids out. That would mean I have to take my babies out of [school]…
“So I said, ‘I’m not going to do that, but we’ll come over and visit,’” revealed the 48-year-old film producer, who split from Taika in 2018.
“I wasn’t that pandering, dutiful, get on my knees and whatever you want [kind of wife].”
“Somebody else was, though,” Chelsea added tellingly.
Chelsea also says she became resentful of having to parent their two daughters, Te Hinekahu, 11, and Matewa Kiritapu, eight, solo while Taika was working.
“You don’t make a human being on your own – therefore, you shouldn’t have to raise a human being on your own, either. When that little seed of resentment was starting to form – I want to be really honest and own my participation in that, in the unravelling of our relationship.”
The New Zealander opened up too about the “humiliation” of the pair’s public separation and how her career had to take a back seat to Taika’s, claiming she “was married to someone who really, was just on their own buzz” with “tunnel vision for whatever reasons”.
“It’s nice to have someone who can support you… or just to go, ‘You got this’ or ‘I’m so proud of you.’ But there was never any of that. There was no interest in what I wanted to be doing. So that said volumes.”
