They’re the self-confessed “travel snobs” who wouldn’t be caught dead in a budget resort – or so their Travel Guides personas would have you believe.
But according to those who’ve spent time around the show’s production, Kevin Moloney and Janetta Stones‘s real personalities are quite different from their on-screen characters.

Insiders paint a picture of a couple who are approachable, easygoing and quick to laugh with cast and crew alike.
“They’re actually among the nicest people on set,” a source tells Woman’s Day. “They love beautiful hotels and good food, sure, but they’re not walking around acting superior. They’re incredibly funny.”
The “snobbery” that’s become their trademark, it seems, is largely a bit they play up for the cameras rather than a true reflection of who they are.
“The snobbery is played up because it’s funny, but it actually feels quite fake. Off camera they’re much more relaxed. They chat to everyone, have a laugh and don’t take themselves too seriously.”
Kevin and Janetta’s decade on Travel Guides
The pair are now heading into their eleventh year of filming Travel Guides, but a decade ago, the idea of appearing on TV wasn’t even on their radar – in fact, Kevin thought it was downright ridiculous.
Speaking to nine.com.au last year, Janetta recalled spotting the casting call back in October 2015, not long after the couple had retired from careers in travel and tourism. When she floated the idea to Kevin, he wasn’t convinced.
“No, don’t be ridiculous. Why would they want us?” he reportedly told her.
Janetta pushed ahead anyway, roping in a friend to film their audition tape on an iPad in the backyard. As part of the pitch, the couple shared a spreadsheet of their retirement budget – with travel and wine topping the list of priorities, of course!
That backyard video paid off: Kevin and Janetta have gone on to become two of the most recognisable faces on Aussie TV, clocking up more than 75 episodes of Travel Guides – which adds up to more than 75 holidays!
