The Block’s Mitch Edwards rushed to hospital after shocking Bali accident

"What a difference a day makes…"

What started as the perfect first day in Bali quickly turned into a holiday nightmare for The Block favourite Mitch Edwards.

After an early 6:30am flight out of Sydney, Mitch and his partner Mark McKie settled into their hotel for a quiet night. “In bed by 9:30pm… what could go wrong?” he later reflected on social media. Unfortunately, plenty.

In a bizarre twist, Mitch revealed he had been sleepwalking when the accident occurred. He reportedly walked straight out of the hotel suite door – completely unaware of what he was doing – and fell at the top of a fire stairwell.

The fall left him with a devastating shoulder injury.

Mark immediately sprang into action, calling an ambulance and ensuring Mitch received urgent medical attention. Staff at their hotel also rushed to help, with the hotel manager accompanying them to the hospital to make sure everything was taken care of.

Initially, the injury was thought to be a simple dislocated shoulder. However, doctors soon discovered the damage was far more serious.

Mitch had broken his AC joint, collapsing the acromion into the clavicle – essentially smashing the bone that connects the collarbone to the shoulder. The severity of the injury required surgery.

The operation was successful, but it was no minor procedure. Surgeons inserted a titanium plate, bolted into his shoulder and collarbone to stabilise the fracture.

Despite the shock and pain of the ordeal, Mitch shared that he was recovering well. With effective pain relief and round-the-clock care, he was hopeful of being discharged from hospital to continue recovery at their villa.

Mitch had nothing but gratitude for the team at the hospital, praising the staff and his surgeon for their professionalism and compassion during what was a frightening experience abroad.

He also expressed heartfelt thanks to the team at his hotel, who he said looked after him “like family”.

Above all, Mitch credited Mark for being his rock throughout the ordeal. Calling him his “hero,” he said having his partner by his side reassured him that everything would be okay.

While the accident was an unfortunate start to their trip, Mitch remains grateful the injury wasn’t even worse – and is focusing on healing.
