Prince Philip discharged from hospital

Prince Philip has been discharged from hospital after being treated for a recurring bladder infection.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who spent five days at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Scotland, seemed to be in good spirits as he shook hands and joked with staff before getting into a waiting Range Rover.

“The Duke was a very good patient,” senior staff nurse Denise Webster said. “As he left the hospital he told staff to behave themselves and he said he was going back to enjoy the rest of his holiday.”

The 91-year-old was first hospitalised for the bladder infection during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in early June.

He was then forced to cut short his holiday at the royal family’s Balmoral estate when he was taken to hospital by ambulance last Wednesday. Buckingham Palace said he had since returned to his annual summer break with his family.

The Duke’s hospitalisation was his third health scare in the space of eight months. The Queen is set to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games on August 29, but there is no word yet on whether Prince Philip will be joining his wife.
