Rescue workers are desperately trying to find a group of school children caught in an avalanche in the French Alps.
The group of 10 school children, accompanied by a teacher, were skiing on a piste at the Deux Alpes resort when an avalanche struck, BBC reports.
Three of the victims were found in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest, police said. The teacher was found unconscious, according to one report.
It is understood the group were skiing on the Bellecombe piste, which is a black-rated run – the most difficult level.
The piste had been closed since the beginning of the ski season because of a lack of snow over the holiday period, a manager at Les Deux Alpes told local media.
However, large quantities of snow have fallen on the French Alps in recent days, raising the risk of avalanches.
More to come.
