10 years ago Freddie Highmore won our hearts playing the lead role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory alongside Johnny Depp, but nowadays he’s making us swoon as a very handsome 23-year-old.

As a little boy he starred in some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and has since accrued a bevy of A-list pals, including Daniel Radcliffe, Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. These days, Freddie is a young adult winning hearts all over again.

His latest role sees him plays Norman Bates on the Bates Motel drama series and he is certainly not the adorable toothy-grinned kid we remember him as.

Talk about growing into your looks – the Brit babe is particularly handsome these days and he even spoke out about being considered a sex symbol while on the cover of Attitude Magazine.

“I think in a way, being judged as a sex symbol and being famous almost go hand in hand but it is not something I have ever sought,” he revealed.

Despite his mature (and attractive) new look, Freddie still avoids social networks, “It’s tricky because these days success relies on promoting the film or the show more and more, and promoting the actors via Twitter and social media, which I am not on. There is more and more pressure on actors to try to embrace a public social media presence. But I am still holding out.”

He found the golden ticket in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory at the humble age of 12, and now at 23, he seems to have struck gold again – this time winning the genetic lottery!

Today, Freddie plays Norman Bates in the successful TV show Bates Motel.

Talk about famous friends! Freddie is pictured here with Finding Neverland co-star Kate Winslet and Charlie and the Chocolate factory’s Johnny Depp.

What a cutie! Freddie was wide-eyed and fresh faced at the 2005 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Freddie first won us over as Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory way back in 2005 and looked so adorable at the premiere.

He also loves his mum! He brought her along as his date to the Critic’s Choice Awards… swoon
