“Words can’t express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine. Without you, there is no Today show,” Sarah said in a statement.

“Together with 60 Minutes, I’ve spent my time at Nine chasing stories, travelling and reporting from all over the world, interviewing some incredible and inspiring people from all walks of life. Becoming a mum has heralded a new chapter and sharing that with our audience has been truly special. As many of you know, this has been a significant journey for my family and will continue to be my greatest achievement.

“I’d like to thank the wider Today team – the amazing crew, incredible producers and my wonderful fellow hosts – you all know how much you mean to me. It takes a special kind of crazy to wake up at the hours we do but it’s so much easier when the team feels like family. I’ll miss you all dearly.”

In a video uploaded to Instagram, Sarah said she’s “excited” to announce her next steps.

“I’m very grateful for all the support that you’ve all shown me and I’ll miss you terribly, but there is more to come,” she said.

“And I’m excited about that and I look forward to that in due course. But for now, it’s a big thank you!”

What’s next for Sarah Abo?

In August, Woman’s Day first reported that Today would be facing a major shakeup after an industry insider said Sarah was set to leave the network.

A source close to production alleged that that the treatment of Sarah from Nine has been ‘poor’.

“It is almost certain Sarah is going to go to Seven – the way Nine have messed her around if the rumours are true is appalling,” the insider said. “Someone like Sarah deserves respect.”

The insider says that Seven had been eyeing Sarah off for some time.

“Seven have had their sights on Sarah for a long time – they can use her across so many platforms and if it’s Melbourne then at least Sarah is where she wants to be.”

Another insider weighed in on the Seven rumours, saying that Dr Chris Brown and Sarah Abo could be looking to join forces in the future.

“Breakfast TV has been on Chris’s bingo card for a while now,” a close insider reveals to Woman’s Day. “The idea of working with Sarah definitely caught his interest. The conversation has sparked a potential shake-up that no one saw coming!”

Who will replace Sarah on Today?

Why there’s been no set confirmation yet, it’s expected the announcement will happen at Channel Nine’s media upfronts on September 17.
