The first Bachelor trailer is here and with that comes our very first, glimpse of our newest Bachie-babe, Matt Agnew.

And like it was written in the stars, the premise is clear. He is out of this world. Literally.

As we sob into our vinos wishing we’d found him first, the next best thing is to obsess over anything Matt and find out everything there is to know about the 31-year-old from Victoria.

Unfortunately for us, his social presence is very minimal, but we do know ONE very large piece of information. He’s an “astrophysicist”.

Ooh, ahh! Very cool! We all exclaim; but really, what even is an astrophysicist anyway?

With this, we take a look at this career path that our new Bachie has taken and you will be blown away.

What does Matt do?

According to his LinkedIn profile, Matt is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of Technology and has been for the last three years.

With a double undergraduate degree in science and engineering, a masters of astrophysics and the fact that he’s soon to become Dr Agnew, there’s no doubt he’s one smart cookie.

Back in 2016 he was even quoted in a Sydney Morning Herald article after scientists found evidence of an ocean beneath the surface of Pluto.

Anyone else tempted to connect with Matt on LinkedIn?

“I am self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic. I enjoy thinking up creative ideas and solutions to problems and collaborating with others to advance and evolve ideas,” he says on his LinkedIn profile.

“I have constantly strived to develop my communication skills. From my superiors and colleagues to vendors, contractors and clients, I have had no difficulty in establishing positive relationships and communicating effectively.”

We have no doubt that he’ll be charming when the ladies step out of the limo in that case!

In short, the goal of astrophysics is to seek an understanding of the universe and our place in it.

What is astrophysics and what does an astrophysicist do?

In short, astrophysics is a brand of space science.

According to it “applies the laws of physics and chemistry to explain the birth, life and death of stars, planets, galaxies, nebulae and other objects in the universe.”

In short, the goal of astrophysics is to seek an understanding of the universe and our place in it.

In Matt’s case (and according to his LinkedIn), the core goal of his astrophysics research “is to use numerical techniques to search for dynamically stable planet candidates in the habitable zones of all known multiple planet systems.”

i.e He uses scientific techniques to determine whether or not a planet can sustain life. (We think.)
