After last year’s disastrous finale when Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins left empty-handed, we thought we’d never see another successful Bachie love story.

But in exciting news, Channel Ten have announced that the new Bachelor for 2019 is 31 year-old astrophysicist Matt Agnew and we’re thrilled they’ve ditched the celebrity angle and gone for a muggle. A very hot muggle. A huggle if you will…

“I’ve got a real ‘do it once, do it right’ mentality so I’ll be making sure I throw myself into it, be vulnerable and enjoy what comes from that,” Matt said in a statement.

“It may be an unorthodox way to meet someone, but I think it’ll be a sensational experience and make for a cracking ‘how we met’ story!”

So who is this loveable chap hoping to find Ms Right? Here’s everything we know about our 2019 Bachelor. Get ready to swoon.

Matt Agnew’s job

According to his LinkedIn profile, 31 year-old Matt is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of Technology and has been for the last three years.

With a double undergraduate degree in science and engineering, a masters of astrophysics and the fact that he’s soon to become Dr Agnew, there’s no doubt he’s one smart cookie.

Back in 2016 he was even quoted in a Sydney Morning Herald article after scientists found evidence of an ocean beneath the surface of Pluto.

“I am self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic. I enjoy thinking up creative ideas and solutions to problems and collaborating with others to advance and evolve ideas,” he says on his LinkedIn profile.

“I have constantly strived to develop my communication skills. From my superiors and colleagues to vendors, contractors and clients, I have had no difficulty in establishing positive relationships and communicating effectively.”

We have no doubt that he’ll be charming when the ladies step out of the limo in that case!

Matt Agnew’s family

Like the Honey Badger, Matt comes from a big family. Matt, who has three siblings, says he wants to replicate his parents’ happy 30 year marriage.

In fact he confesses it was them who’ve always told him, “You’ve got to give it a go, give it a chance and put your heart out there.”

Guess we’ll meet them on the show. Fingers crossed there’s a hot brother too.

What type of girl is Matt Agnew looking for?

Filming is said to start around mid-March so bad luck ladies, you may not be able to get your application in this round.

According to the Bachelor application page, they were looking for single women between the ages of 23-45. However, Matt says he’s looking for that special someone who’s genuine, enjoys having a laugh, doesn’t take herself too seriously and has a real passion for life.

Let’s hope he gets that spark as soon as he sees her.

He also loves a bit of AFL, knows his way around the kitchen and has dabbled in yoga so any lady with similar interests would be a bonus.
