His visit to Acer – a project to help disadvantaged children in Diadema outside Sao Paulo – no doubt raised emotions for the Prince who also lost his own mother as a child.

“I was completely overwhelmed and shocked,” he said. “I’ve never blubbed in public as far as I can remember but I was pretty damn close. It was amazing to hear those stories.”

The Prince showed off his skills in a game of football with some of the children. Earlier in the day he planted a tree in Cota 200, a small village in the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest.

An emotional Prince Harry said: “Some of the Children’s stories in Diadema have reduced me to tears, but the smiles on their faces show the positive impact their community is having on them and the success of ACER.”
