If there’s ever an event to bring a fractured family together, it’s the birth of a new baby.
And after a telling clue in King Charles’ latest family announcement was laid bare, that is precisely what seems to have happened in the case of Princess Eugenie and her latest bundle of fun.
Eugenie announced the birth of her third child with husband Jack Brooksbank on August 4, just a day after the tot was welcomed into the world in Lisbon, Portugal – a location where Eugenie and Jack have a home.
“Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie,” the daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson shared, without revealing the name of the tot.
Over on the official Instagram page of the Royal Family, the joyful news was also shared.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal,” the announcement read.
“The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.”
Hidden among the formal wording was a detail that didn’t go unnoticed by royal watchers.
Indeed, in an opinion piece for the Daily Express, World News Reporter Emily Wright declared it made Charles’ “true strategy” come into “clear focus”.
“It is a masterclass in royal PR – one that warmly pulls Eugenie close while delivering a cold shoulder to her disgraced parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson,” the author explained.
While the Palace statement announcing Eugenie’s pregnancy earlier this year mentioned only the King, the birth announcement explicitly brought in “other members of The Royal Family” – giving them the gravitas of capital letters for added emphasis.
“This isn’t just about sharing good news – it’s a public endorsement,” Wright wrote.
“Despite months of swirling rumours that Prince William and other senior royals were keeping their distance from the York sisters following Andrew’s fall from grace and subsequent police arrest, this phrasing sends an undeniable message that Eugenie is still in the fold.”
And sources say there is one particular person who is keen to keep Eugenie within easy reach – none other than a newly royally-reunited Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan and her husband Prince Harry also own a home in Portugal and Meghan and their kids, Archie and Lilibet, are thought to have bunkered down there ahead of their reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla in June.
Now, insiders tell Woman’s Day that Meghan is keen to hold on to the holiday home and is making long-term plans to embed her and the kids into Portuguese culture – all while making money from the lucrative European market.
“Their time in Portugal is always so invigorating, it’s such a great reset. Meghan came back very hyped up about spending a whole lot more time there,” the source says.
“She says it checks so many boxes. For one thing they have so much peace and privacy there, it’s so nourishing. And they get much needed family time.”
Adding to the allure is the time Harry gets to spend with his cousin Eugenie and her kids – and the insider says the Sussex and Brooksbank families all enjoy the get-togethers.
“It’s much closer to the UK, so Meghan’s now looking at the possibility of them making Portugal their part-time home base, not just a holiday place but somewhere they spend some meaningful time,” the insider explains, adding that being closer to London would allow more opportunities for Harry to bond with his father.
“This all hinges on whether their finances will allow them to have this home but there’s no doubt Meg has her heart set on it,” the insider says.
“She’s even talking with Eugenie about how they could team up and get involved in something together in Europe.
“She has been trying to collaborate with her on something for a long time, and being neighbours would make it easier.”
