The Packed to the Rafters star made the following plea on his Facebook page in the wee hours of Sunday morning as he clearly endured an anxious and sleepless night:
“Please. Anyone who is awake, please pray for my little brother Zachary who is on Mt Everest, I’d appreciate every prayer you have spare x”
Hailing from Adelaide, Zachary is one of 47 Australians reported missing in Nepal after the tiny mountain nation was hit by a 7.9 magnitude earthquake which is so far believed to have taken the lives of 1300 people.
The quake sent shockwaves through the north of India and triggered a massive avalanche on Mt Everest, where Hugh says his brother was trekking.
The Red Cross has set up a webpage of the missing persons including the missing Australians. Anyone who has concerns regarding missing persons is advised to please get in touch or register through this site.
The details listed on the Red Cross Family Links show that Zachary, 20, last contacted his family on April 22 from Namche Bazar, which is known as the gateway to Everest.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Hugh, his family and all the other families who currently have missing loved ones amid this tragedy, during this difficult time.
