Baby dies after being placed in the oven to ‘warm up’

Police say the mother left the children without informing a grandmother who also lived at the apartment complex.

A baby has died after being placed in the oven by her three-year-old twin siblings, in an apparent attempt to warm the child up.

Police who were called to the scene in Houston say that four children under five had been left alone in the house.

Local station ABC13 says the two three-year-old siblings “put the baby in the oven and the other one turned it on and made it hot.”

The oldest sibling, who was just five, was apparently asleep at the time.

“When Racquel Thompson, the children’s mother, returned home from going out with her boyfriend to get takeout pizza and pick up a prescription, she attempted CPR, but it was too late,” the report says.

The baby, J’Zyra, died of multiple burns.

“Police say the mother left the children without informing a grandmother who also lived at the apartment complex. The three surviving children are now in foster care.”
