Fashion’s night of nights: stars at 2015 Met Gala

It’s considered the Super Bowl equivalent of the fashion world with more haute couture-wearing celebrities than a Naomi Campbell entourage. And this year’s New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit Gala – aka the Met Ball – certainly didn’t disappoint!

Celebrities in attendance at this year’s event include Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Madonna, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara, Anne Hathaway, George and Amal Clooney and countless others.

Solange Knowles stepped out in a very edgy dress that featured a large oval detail that almost hid her face.

Perhaps the Losing You hitmaker was attempting to distract everyone from the fact that it’s one year since the infamous elevator incident, in which she was caught on security camera apparently attacking her sister’s husband, Jay Z. The circumstances behind the private rift have never been explained and they’ve since been pictured together, playing happy families.

Meanwhile event organiser and editor-in-chief of US Vogue, Anna Wintour, has reportedly put her foot down and placed a ban on selfies from inside the event. The New York Post reports that a decree was issued to attendees stating “the use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted.”

Previous celebrity Instagram posts from the event include a video of a highly drunk Reese Witherspoon which was shared by supermodel Cara Delevingne. Perhaps Miss Wintour is trying to raise standards by ensuring that any debauchery that goes on at the event remains behind closed doors!

But that certainly doesn’t stop the onslaught of spectacular gowns for all of us to admire. The guests were invited to dress for the theme of this year’s exhibit “China: Through The Looking Glass,” and there have been plenty of creative interpretations of the Oriental-inspired dress code.
