Boxing Day 2021: All the hacks to get the best deals when the sales start this year

Ready, set, shop!

By Maddison Leach
Christmas may be all about family and food, but everything changes when Boxing Day arrives, because December 26 is about one thing only: shopping.
Heading to the Boxing Day sales on the morning of December 26 is a time honoured tradition for countless Australians.
We're set to spend millions on the big day this year, so here's a handy guide to help you bag a bargain in 2021.

When do the Boxing Day sales start?

It used to be that Boxing Day sales started when the doors of your local Westfield first opened on December 26, but things have changed in recent years.
Many online shopping sites start their sales at midnight on December 25, meaning you can get early access to items that will be on sale in store hours later.
Most physical stores still start their sales first thing on the morning of Boxing Day, with many stores opening early for eager shoppers.
Westfields around Australia also extend their hours on the day, with many opening as early as 8am or even 7am to let shoppers in.
There are a few stores around the nation that remain closed on Boxing Day, so make sure to check with your local shopping centres to confirm trading hours.

Most online retailers offer the same discounts and deals as their physical stores, with some every offering special online-only deals like free shipping and extra coupon codes.
A handful of online shopping sites also start their Boxing Day sales hours or even days earlier than physical stores.
If you're hoping to get access to the sales as soon as they start, sign up for the retailer's newsletters and check the site at midnight on Christmas Day.

How can I get the best Boxing Day deals?

The best deals depend on what you're shopping for and what values you have when it comes to fashion, beauty or whatever you're buying.
While it's easy to be tempted by the ultra-cheap prices from fast fashion outlets, Boxing Day is actually a great time to hunt for deals on pricier items you wouldn't usually buy.
Consider looking for deals on high-quality staples like jeans, leather shoes and handbags, luxe skincare and homegoods.
You can window shop for styles, brands or specific products you like ahead of Boxing Day (or bookmark them online) and then buy them at a seriously discounted rate on the big day.
While a pair of Ksubi jeans may cost more than a similar no-name style - even on Boxing Day - they will last you longer than a bargain pair, so you're saving more money in the long run by investing in higher quality pieces.

Where are the best Boxing Day clothing sales?

This all depends on where you like to shop and how you like to dress, but we've collected some of our favourite fashion retailers to shop at on Boxing Day.
