The new season of Bride & Prejudice: The Forbidden Weddings will introduce viewers to six new couples. Though they each have their own unique story, these couples have one major thing in common: their families don’t want them to wed.

The betrothed couples will face lie detector tests, intense counselling with their families and much, much, more in the new season, which is set to air Monday to Wednesday, 7:30pm, on Channel Seven.

Philippa & Ry

Philippa & Ry

Philippa’s parents Peter and Gunilla can’t get past the 18-year age gap in her relationship with Ry. They think Ry, 21, is using Philippa, 39, for money and the family are at breaking point.

“I didn’t speak to them for six months,” Philippa tells TV WEEK. “I just said, ‘Look, this is the path I’ve chosen’ and took some space. I’ll always love my parents, but they’re over the top.”

Ry adds, “For them, it’s all about money, safety and security. It’s not about whether she’s happy.”

Ange & Dylan

Ange & Dylan

Ange’s religious dad John believes being gay is a sin and thinks if his daughter marries Dylan (near left), they’ll both go to hell. But Dylan believes John’s stance is deeply rooted in the loss of his wife Greta, who died when Ange, 23, was just six years old.

“John and Greta found religion together, so I think holding onto those beliefs is like holding onto her,” Dylan, 31, tells TV WEEK.

Ange believes things would have been different if her mother were still alive.

“From what everyone has told me, she never would have judged anybody or put someone down for their beliefs,” she says.

Jess & Seyat

Jess & Seyat

Seyat’s mother Fatima is every girl’s worst nightmare. Not only does she think her 19-year-old son is too young to marry, but Jess says Fatima has called her “dirty and disgusting”.

A hurt Jess, 21, says the insults bring back memories of being bullied at school.

“It brings up a lot of anxiety,” she says. “But I know it’ll make me a stronger person.”

Jess is confident Seyat is the one for her.

“Some people spend their whole lives trying to find love,” she says. “It’s beautiful when you find it at a young age.”

Izzy & Simon

Izzy & Simon

Izzy and Simon don’t exactly have what you’d call a “normal” relationship.

Izzy’s mum Bobbi and best friend Amanda think Simon, 27, is a womaniser, and will even make him undergo a lie-detector test on the show.

“My mum hasn’t trusted him from the get-go,” Izzy, 28, tells TV WEEK.

To make matters worse, Izzy suffered a miscarriage earlier this year – only to find out Simon was cheating on her at her lowest point.

“It made me feel awful, like I was disposable,” she says.

Hank & Lily

Hank & Lily

Lily’s views upset Hank’s conservative parents, Terry and Margaret. They’d prefer Hank, 26, date a woman “who doesn’t speak back and does what she’s told”, but their dinner conversations have Lily doing the opposite.

“I was shocked by the things Terry said,” Lily, 23, tells TV WEEK. “I wouldn’t speak up to begin with because I didn’t want to cause any issues. But I’m me – I can’t just sit there!”

Melissa & Aalden

Melissa & Aalden

Melissa’s mum Jill and sister Rachel are worried about her marrying Aalden, a recovering gambling addict and cheater.

But Melissa, 29, thinks they need to remember why they loved Aalden, 32, in the first place.

“Aalden can see what damage his cheating did to me and our family,” Melissa tells TV WEEK. “We both grew up in broken homes, and it was a huge wake-up call for him.”

Aalden thinks they have the wrong impression.

“They’ve got a small picture of who I was, instead of who I am as a whole. I’m not a degenerate. I’m not swimming in debt.”
