When Jordie Hansen was first asked if he’d be interested in returning to Survivor, he immediately said yes.

But by the time he was officially confirmed as a member of the Villains tribe on Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains, his life had changed.

His fiancée Sam Frost was nine weeks pregnant.

”It’s something you really have to consider: is it selfish if I go and do this, leaving my sick, pregnant partner at home?”

Jordie tells TV WEEK.

”But Sam was the one who kicked me out the door. She said, ‘You’ve got to go.’

”She’s the best. She’s the least selfish person I know.”

Despite Sam encouraging Jordie to go, he struggled with being away from her in Samoa.

”It was honestly mental torture,” he admits.

”While it seems like Survivor’s hectic, there’s a lot of moments where you’re up at night, by yourself. All you have is your own thoughts and a lot of hunger.”

Jordie met former Bachelorette and Home And Away star Sam through her brother Alex, who competed alongside Jordie on last year’s Australian Survivor: Blood V Water.

Jordie and Sam went public with their relationship in March, announced Sam’s pregnancy in September, and soon after, revealed they were having a boy.

Sam and Jordie are going to be parents this year.

Jordie – who, at 26, is seven years younger than Sam – says he feels ready to be a dad, ”big time”.

”When Sam and I were discussing the possibility of maybe trying for a baby, there was not one minute where I second-guessed that decision,” he says.

“Sam, while she’s not old, was worried that for some people it can take years and years, so she wanted to at least start trying, and we just got really lucky.”

Jordie is ”super excited” about his son’s arrival, and can’t wait to teach him to surf and take him camping.

”But most importantly I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to have a small part in creating what is hopefully a beautiful, gentle, kind, caring, loving man,” he adds.

Being strong has been an asset in the physical challenges.

As for the wedding, Jordie says Sam is suggesting sometime towards the end of this year.

”She can get her body back into whatever way she’d like it, and also have the baby grow to a certain point where we’re happy to leave him with Grandma or Grandpa.”

A landscaper by trade, Jordie now has a podcast and YouTube channel with Sam about their roadtrip adventures. He says they’ve been in contact with a production company who want to turn it into a TV series.

”They’re the rumours floating around at the moment, which we’re pretty excited about, but we’ll see.”
