The $174K-a-month curse: Hugh Jackman stuck with unsellable $40M apartment as Deb gives ‘zero help’

The star has been trying to offload the property for six months now.

The triplex apartment Hugh Jackman once shared with his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness, continues to cause chaos in his new relationship with Younger star Sutton Foster.

The Wolverine star has been trying to offload the New York apartment for almost six months now.

The former couple paid $29.3 million ($US21 million) for the sprawling five-bedroom apartment in 2008 and first listed it for sale in June 2022 for $54.2 million ($US38.9 million), before removing it from the market just two months later.

In 2023, around the same time they announced the end of their 27-year marriage, the couple listed the Manhattan residence for rent for $174,000 a month.

According to realtor.com, the Sing Song Blue star managed to secure a tenant who was set to stay in the property until December 2026, despite the eye-watering rent.

However, in March this year, the 57-year-old re-listed the apartment for sale for $40.1 million ($US28.75 million) and so far has failed to find a buyer.

Now, sources close to The Greatest Showman star claim that Hugh and Deb’s “house of broken dreams” is creating a strain in his new relationship.

“Putting the triplex back on the market at such a huge price drop just shows how desperate Hugh is to sell it. The tenant, who was supposed to stay there until December, has pulled out leaving it still currently sitting in a joint LLC with Deb, who has zero interest in Hugh’s generous offers to buy out his share,” our source spills.

“She has no plans on being saddled with their house of broken dreams, but she is disappointed in the price drop. It’s still above their purchase price but they poured a small fortune into renovations.”

The delay in the sale means Hugh and Sutton have had to put off buying their own dream home until Hugh can offload the property and free up some cash.

“They both want to get rid of it, but Hugh’s even more desperate than Deb. On paper, Hugh’s worth millions, but getting his hands on any of it during his divorce was impossible,” they explain.

“Sutton’s used to pulling out her card – she insists actually – every now and then, but now the divorce has been finalised, Hugh’s fiscal problems are not over yet.”

Industry insiders claim Hugh is “starting from scratch” after finalising the divorce last year and really needs the triplex to sell so he and Sutton can really begin their new life together.

“He and Sutton have had to put off buying their dream country bolthole until he gets this cash windfall. It’s been a frustrating time for them but they can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” one source spills.

“They’ve had their wings clipped for so long, but Sutton knows things are a lot better than they were when they were hiding from the paps and trying to see each other without being spotted.”

Hugh and Deborra-Lee first announced their separation in September 2023 before finalising their divorce in early 2025. Not long after their marriage breakdown was made public, Hugh began dating Sutton, his former co-star and long-time friend.
