While hordes of Australian celebrities are set to descend onto The Star in Sydney this Sunday night for the 63rd TV WEEK Logie Awards, all eyes will be on Dr Chris Brown and Sonia Kruger as they take centrestage for the first time as Seven’s new primetime power team!

And Sonia can’t wait to hit the red carpet together. “I’m really, really excited,” the Gold Logie nominee tells Woman’s Day.

“He’s lovely, gorgeous, handsome, strapping, intelligent – what other adjectives can we use?” she giggles.

“No, I honestly think he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and super-talented so I think with my brains and his beauty, we can do anything!”

Despite both being TV veterans, they only properly met at a wedding a couple of years ago, however Sonia’s a longtime fan of his work.

After she heard whispers Chris, 44, was thinking of coming over to Seven, she made it her mission to persuade him.

“I ran into him at the AACTA Awards, and I don’t know if he’d made his mind up or not, but I was saying to him that I’d personally love it if he came to Seven,” she reveals, adding, “It’d just be great to have somebody of his level of talent to bounce off and work with.”

Sonia notes she was a big fan of Julia Morris and Dr Chris’ playful dynamic on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! but is quick to add she won’t be trying to emulate what they had.

“I don’t want people to think I’m trying to be Julia with Chris, I would never try that. You can only be who you are and I think our dynamic will be different – I don’t think I’ll be flirting with Dr Chris, Dr Chris will be flirting with me,” she jokes.

“He’ll fall desperately in love with me and that’ll be the end of that, but he’s only human!” she laughs.

Current industry rumours are that the duo are being primed for other shows on Seven, with executives seeing how they fare with audiences this Sunday night, and while Sonia adds that she’d “love to work with him on anything”, she’s leaving that to the bigwigs.

“I’m sure he’s going to be very in demand at the network, so I’ll leave that to him and the network bosses.”

This year, Sonia is nominated for the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter and the prestigious Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality.

And despite celebrating 30 years in the industry last year, Sonia still finds the whole prospect “bizarre”.

“I grew up watching the Logies and dreamed what it’d be like to actually be nominated. And it’s every bit as amazing as you imagine it to be, but I do suffer a little bit of imposter syndrome.

“I think a lot of people could do my job, and probably do it better, there a lot of talented people out there, so I just feel very lucky,” she says.
