There must be something in the water in Sweden!

Just a day after the christening of Princess Madeleine’s second baby, and just weeks after the announcement of Crown Princess Victoria’s second pregnancy, Princess Sofia has announced she is expecting her first royal baby!

Princess Sofia, 30, and her husband Carl Philip, 36, have announced they are expecting a baby, due in April of 2016.

The happy news was announced via a statement from the palace, which read: “We are so happy and excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. We are very much looking forward to it.”

“The birth is expected to take place in April of 2016. No changes in the schedule of The Prince Couple’s public engagements are planned during the fall of 2015.”

The news accompanied a beautiful new portrait of the expectant couple, who looked absolutely radiant.

Sofia, nee Sofia Hellqvist, and Carl Philip’s baby news comes just four months after their fairy tale wedding in Sweden’s capital, where they married in front of 25 foreign queens, kings, princes and princesses, plus their own friends and family.

The pair tied the knot after more than five years of dating in a lavish ceremony which included cheeky details like a poprocks cake and a 24-hour after-party with musical guests Avicii and Icona Pop!

The baby will be the first for both Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip.
