Netflix has begun filming its series “The Crown,” an upcoming post-war drama series about Queen Elizabeth II, and the cast have been spotted out and about the streets of London in full costume.
Tackling the role of a young Elizabeth is British actress Claire Foy, known for her role on BBC Two’s Wolf Hall and she will be joined by Doctor Who star Matt Smith who will play a young Prince Philip.
Certainly the better known of the two actors portraying the royal roles is Smith who has done a lot to distance himself from his Doctor Who character since leaving the show.
The 32-year-old has recently starred as Bully in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River and landed a part in the forthcoming Terminator: Genysis.
One of the writers on the Netflix series is Peter Morgan – who also wrote the feature film The Queen, for which Dame Helen Mirren won an Oscar – and the decades-spanning series follows Queen
