The Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to her late mother-in-law once again today, choosing Diana’s favourite tiara for a reception at Buckingham Palace.

Kate arrived at the event alongside her husband Prince William in a chauffeur-driven Bentley, looking radiant in the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara and an ice blue lace dress.

The large crown, which was given to Diana as a wedding present from the Queen in 1981, features dozens of large pearls and diamonds.

It was originally made for Queen Mary in 1914. She wanted something similar to a tiara owned by her grandmother Princess Augusta of Hesse, who married the first Duke of Cambridge in 1818.

This is not the first time Kate has worn Diana’s jewellery. She famously wears her mother-in-law’s sapphire engagement ring, and often the matching earrings.
