On Monday, the Canberra-based electrician revealed he was back with Lucy, the woman accused of being his ‘secret girlfriend’ while he was looking for love on reality dating series Love Island.

But just two weeks earlier, Grant, 22, was begging his former Love Island girlfriend Tayla Damir, 21, to take him back after the pair sensationally split just 12 days after winning the reality series together and declaring their love for one another.

“Tayla are finished and I’m back with Lucy,” Grant told NW.

How did we get from here to here in such a short time?

How long have Grant and Lucy known each other?

When Grant and Lucy actually met and began their ‘friendship’ is fuzzy, even to the pair.

“Me and Grant knew each other for a long time before Love Island,” Lucy, a personal trainer, explained to NW.

Despite allegations from a woman claiming to be Lucy’s cousin that the couple were in a committed relationship and living together, Lucy says they were never really serious: “We were really good friends and had a really close friendship. But it was never anything serious.”

Grant was pictured with Lucy and her family in cosy social media posts as recently as April 8, and was still posting pictures and gushy comments about her just weeks before he headed to Spain where he met Tayla in the Love Island villa.

The ‘friends’ look pretty cosy, prior to Grant’s departure for Spain.

Inside the Love Island villa

In May, leaving Lucy behind, Grant left for Love Island where he met and fell seemingly head-over-heels for Tayla Damir.

“Obviously I was going into the Villa with an open heart and looking for love,” he said.

During the series, the nation watched on with sheer delight as the villa’s sweethearts made commitments to each other, Grant gave Tayla a promise ring, and together they were voted the winners of the dating series.

However, while Grant was in Spain, a storm was brewing back at home. Allegations arose of secret girlfriend waiting for Grant outside the villa, working on his clothing line, while he gained notoriety.

Lucy and Grant deny the allegations as Lucy claims she didn’t think she had feelings for Grant before seeing him on national TV in love with someone else.

“Going into it, I didn’t really think I had feelings for Grant,” says Lucy.

“But I don’t think it was until he was on there and I was watching it that I sort of went, ‘Oh, I did have feelings that were more than just a friendship’,” she adds.

Grant and Tayla win love Island

On the finale of Love Island, Tayla was given $50,000 and the option to keep it for herself, of split it with her new love Grant. She chose to share her winnings and the pair made fast plans to move to Sydney together.

However, as soon as they were given access to the internet Tayla realised maybe not all was as she thought.

Desperate for confirmation that Grant and Lucy were just in fact ‘friends’, Tayla tried to phone Lucy, but Lucy didn’t feel comfortable talking.

Unable to hear Lucy’s side, Tayla then searched the internet and social media and in her words, “finally got the answer that was the truth: he was on there to promote himself and he did have a girlfriend who was running his business while he was inside the Villa”.

Grant and Tayla won the heart’s of Australians watching their love story from home.

Grant and Tayla split

Just 12 days after winning Love Island, on July 18, Tayla called it quits with Grant.

Opening up about her decision to sensationally dump Grant, Tayla explained he was simply “too young” for her and trust issues ultimately got the better of them.

“Obviously I’m heartbroken, it was a big shock to the system,” the reality star told the publication.

Two days later, on July 20, a heartbroken Grant appears on KIIS 1065 FM, and tells Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O that he’d do anything to have Tayla back in his life.

“It’s just hard because I went on Love Island and I fell in love with Tayla, I still do love the girl,” he said at the time.

“I will try my best to win her back.”

Cut to two weeks later…

Grant and Lucy are together

Got whiplash yet? Grant and Lucy pose for NW.

NW meets up with Grant and Lucy at the Crapp family home in Canberra, where the pair are ready to announce they’re together.

“I’ve come out [of the villa], me and Tayla are finished and I’m back with Lucy,” Grant explained to NW during the loved-up photoshoot.

He added: “It does make you think about what you valued… the friendship [I had] before I went in there,” he says.

Grant phoned Lucy the weekend after his split from Tayla and the pair rekindled their connection.

Grant and Lucy remain coy as to what their relationship currently is: boyfriend and girlfriend or just friends? But what Grant knows his he won’t lose contact with Lucy like he has Tayla.

“I value Lucy in my life,” he said.

“Who knows what is going to happen between me and Lucy… I’m spending time with her and I really enjoy her company, so it’s something time will tell.”

Lucy second Grant’s sentiments, “We’re taking each day as it comes. We’ve only just got back in touch, so we’re just letting it be a day-to-day thing.”

One things for sure, we’ll be watching this space!
