Body of missing girl found in mum’s freezer

While police were investigating a mum of five's abuse against her son, they realised one of the other children had been missing for months.

Janiya Thomas

An 11-year-old girl has been found dead in her mother’s freezer, and her mother is refusing to talk to authorities reports People.

When Child Protective Services went to Keishanna Thomas’ Florida house last week to investigate an incident involving her 12-year-old son, they were expecting to find five children between two and 15 years old in the home.

Instead, they only found four and upon further investigation they realised that 11 year-old Janiya Thomas had not been seen since August 2014.

Keishanna told authorites that her daughter was staying with friends interstate but CPS officials discovered the child had not been to school or seen by family and neighbours for over a year.

A phone call from a family member led authorities to search a nearby family member’s property where the mother and a male friend had allegedly moved a locked freezer for storage some months before.

After breaking the lock on the freezer they made the grisly discovery of a dead child. At the time of reporting the remains had not been identified, but the remains match the description.

Janiya had intestinal issues that her mother found frustrating. The girl could often not tell when she needed to go to the bathroom so her mother would often lock her in there for for hours.

Keishanna has a history of prostitution and has served community service hours in the past.
