“I don’t preach about polygamy but I feel it is a very Christian lifestyle,” Thom told Barcroft TV. “I have no problem with homosexuals but I think it’s wrong that their marriage is now recognised by the state, but my second marriage is not. I’m going to try and fight the bigotry of that. This is America and my wives and I have the right to live anyway we please, providing we’re not hurting anybody.”
Thom’s first wife, Belinda, 44, gave him her blessing to bring another woman into the home, and she views 19-year-old Reba Kerfootruba as a blessing in their lives.
Thom and Belinda were married for seven years before Belinda suggested they bring another woman into the relationship.
“I wanted to have more of a family — having another lady in the house not only makes our family whole but individually. It’s a beautiful thing because it’s like having a sister around,” she said.
Although the relationship may suit the trio not everyone was thrilled with the arrangement namely, Reba’s parents who have known Thom since Reba was a child.
“I’ve known Reba for a long time, then she moved away and I hadn’t seen her for years,” he said. “I caught something because she hugged me and I wanted to keep hugging her and I realised, wow, I’m really appreciating this woman,” says Thom.
Thom doesn’t care if people judge his lifestyle, because he and his wives are happy together.
“I think polygamy benefits everyone because my wives get to have a much larger family — it means they always have a friend with them,” Thom said. “There have been arguments in the past and at times there can be flares of jealousy but we manage to make it work. Sexually I have no preference and look forward to my time alone with both wives.”
