Drone captures magical moment whales swim up to paddle boarder

A drone operator has captured mesmerizing vision of two Southern Right whales swimming next to a local paddleboarder.

A beach-goer from Esperance, WA, has captured the incredible moment two Southern Right whales swam up to a local paddleboarder in the bay.

Jaimen Hudson, an amateur drone operator, raced out with his equipment and sent his drone out over the water to capture this mesmerising footage of paddleboarder, Dave Price, next to the two inquisitive whales.

“I set up my equipment on the footpath and flew the drone out,” Jaimen told the ABC, “Dave Price who lives close by, was just making his way over to the whales on his stand-up paddle board and they were really inquisitive and came over to meet him.”

Set to Jack Johnson’s rendition of ‘Imagine’, the video, which is captured in crysal clear 4K HD shows the whales as they float in the bay, swimming beside each other and looking over at their new companion.

“There was one time when the whales lifted their heads up looked up over Pricey’s board, they were so inquisitive and wanted to know what he was,” the film-maker told the ABC.

“I don’t think it was dangerous, the whales moved to where he was and the whole time they were very slow moving and peaceful,” Jaimen said.

The video has been viewed more than two million times.
