Joe Biden crying as he receives surprise Presidential Medal of Freedom will emotionally break you

President Barack Obama awarded his best friend, Vice President Joe Biden, the highest civilian honour possible.

President Barack Obama has awarded Vice President Joe Biden the highest civilian honour – the Presidential Medal of Freedom with distinction.

The surprise honour was extremely emotional; the president’s best friend shedding tears as he accepted the award.

Mr Biden gave a tearful speech, thanking the President, his staff, his wife, Dr Jill Biden, and First Lady Michelle Obama.

“I get a lot of credit I don’t deserve because I’ve had so many people to lean on,” he said.

“Mr President, you know that with good reason there is no power in the vice presidency … and there is no inherent power, nor should there be.”

“Mr President, you have more than kept your commitment to me by saying that you wanted me to help govern. …

“Every single thing you’ve asked me to do, Mr President, you have trusted me to do. And that is a remarkable thing.”

The pair have an amazing friendship as well as working relationship. Obama tragically delivered the eulogy at Biden’s son’s funeral after his untimely passing from brain cancer.

Obama also took time to thank Joe during his emotional Farewell Address in Chicago.

What an amazing way to mark a remarkable friendship. Congratulations, Joe Biden.
