When the royal family stepped out in their glad rags for the Queen’s state banquet held in June, there was a colour theme we couldn’t help but notice.

Indeed as Duchess Catherine, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Anne, Princess Royal and indeed Queen Elizabeth herself entered stage left (aka the grand halls of Buckingham Palace) the foursome looked a complete vision in white gowns.

And while Her Majesty the Queen is known to wear white to all state banquets, it was interesting to see the other royals don the striking colour too.

Which is exactly why we got to thinking – was there a reason for it?

Well, as it turns out, there could well have been.

According to a colour expert who spoke to UK publication Hello!, the colour white has a very important meaning behind it, and its message would have been pertinently clear at the glamorous dinner, which included President of the United States, Donald Trump, along with his wife Melania.

“White of course is the colour of peace and the colour of new beginnings,” expert Gabi Winters explained.

“Coincidentally the psychological meaning behind this uncommon colour choice is very fitting when it comes to renewing and celebrating diplomatic ties between different nations.”

Adding that the colour white can represent a blank canvas on which to be written upon, it certainly suggests the royals choice in attire was rather fitting as they were joined by the US political elite.

There might have been a very special reason as to why the royals wore white to the state banquet in June.

Anne, Princess Royal also wore a white gown for the soiree.

What’s more, Melania’s choice to wear a striking white Dior gown, complete with sleek elbow reaching gloves further entrenches the point.

“It’s a fully reflective colour that creates simplicity, clearing the way forward,” Winters added.

“Scientifically speaking white contains an equal balance of all the colours of the spectrum, so naturally, white’s most fundamental feature is equality, neutrality and independence.”

We can’t argue with that, especially when the colour looks so incredibly chic on all of the regal ladies – as well as FLOTUS!

Oozing glamour, the ladies in white stunned at the event.

The special event is always a spectacle for royal watchers, who revel in seeing the amazing tiaras come out from the archives.

Traditionally, members of the royal family wear the priceless headpieces to state banquets – and there’s no denying the hype that surrounds them.

Kate, who is already undeniably revered by the masses for her flawless sense of style, always turns things up a notch for state banquets.

This time around, she wore a stunning floor-length white layered gown designed by Alexander McQueen.

Pairing it with her favourite Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, famously worn previously by Princess Diana, the Duchess was a true sight to behold.

Kate was a vision in her Alexander McQueen gown.

There was also another unexpected detail in Kate’s outfit that got us whipping out the glasses for a close up look – her blue, red and white sash of the Victorian order, which was a gift from the Queen to mark her and husband Prince William’s eighth wedding anniversary.

Bestowed to her only months ago, the occasion marked the first time we’d seen Kate don the sash, and suffice to say it was an incredible debut.

Meanwhile Sophie, Countess of Wessex also donned a rather special accessory with her light purple gown designed by Bruce Oldfield.

Indeed perched atop her sleek up-do was the Anthemion Tiara, which was the very same headpiece she wore on her wedding day back in 1999.

The stunning tiara was commissioned especially for Sophie, made up of a number of antique pieces that came from the Queen’s own personal collection – how special!
