But if you’re just starting out when it comes to taking nude photos, it can be overwhelming and sometimes uncomfortable. It’s easy to overthink nudes in an effort to make them look as good as possible.

Lighting is key

You know when golden hour hits and you and your friends quickly grab your margaritas and pose in the glow? The same lighting rules apply when it comes to nude photos – natural lighting can do wonders.

If your place has a window that gets plenty of sun, use it! If not, it’s best to find warm, yellow-coloured light than a cool, white light.

Another option is candles!

Wear some lingerie

There’s nothing like a bit of sexy lingerie to make you feel more confident, comfortable and relax your pose.

Optimise your background

Just like lighting is important, your background is equally as essential. Mess and clutter in the can detract from the star of the show (you).

Try clearing your space beforehand or only including aesthetically pleasing items in the frame – candles, books, flowers etc.

Communicate, communicate, communicate

If you’re planning on sending your nudes to another consensual adult, make sure to speak to the intended recipient about your boundaries and what sort of nudes work for both of you to avoid either party feeling uncomfortable.

Remember, everyone’s different when it comes to taking nudes, so it’s important to have clear and honest communication to establish rules.

A note about safety

Safety is key when it comes to sharing saucy images, as once a photo leaves your phone you have very little control over where it goes next. None of this is to say that you shouldn’t take or send nude pics, but it’s good to acknowledge and understand the risks.

If your photos are shared without your consent or used against you in any way, know that there is support available. Anyone experiencing image-based abuse or ‘revenge porn’ can make a report to the eSafety Commissioner or police.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is always available. Call 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
