Wild weather threatens to destroy Shaynnas special renovation

''I want people to walk in and feel like they’re getting a hug from a house that’s been here for 130 years,'' Shaynna says.

From the blueprints to the build, every detail of a home renovation is planned to the millimetre. But this week, Shaynna Blaze realises there are some things you can’t control – especially mother nature.

In Country Home Rescue, Shaynna decides to tackle the heart of the home: the kitchen and living room. The back of the property has been demolished to make way for an open-plan area that will provide space, but also bring them into one area together, with the help of a grand fireplace.

”I want people to walk in and feel like they’re getting a hug from a house that’s been here for 130 years,” Shaynna says.

Country Home Rescue with Shaynna Blaze airs Wednesday at 8pm on Nine.

A fireplace can’t come soon enough for the family, as temperatures in Kyneton, roughly 90km north of Melbourne, where the house is, dip to 5C below.

The rain has slowed all progress and it’s not easing up.

”Every time I think I’m clawing back time and money, something happens,” Shaynna says as work comes to a halt.

”Mother Nature is now kicking in.”

Since the pandemic, she hasn’t been able to secure the supplies to complete her dream design. And, just as things couldn’t get worse, Victoria is told to brace for significant weather – with Kyneton about to bare the brunt of it.

A massive storm causes the town to lose electricity and raise fears for the safety of the townsfolk.

After bunkering down, builder Matt Menichelli arrives on site to assess the damage and admits it’s even worse than he imagined.

”Personally, I felt sick arriving on site to assess the damage,” he says.

”It looks like a war zone.”

With extra money needed to simply fix the damage, Shaynna’s dream is slipping further out of reach.
