Our hearts are breaking.

There have been rumours of a McLeod’s Daughters reboot for some time now and it’s been filling our hearts with hope.

In September, the show’s creator Posie Graeme Evans shared the news that she had written a “cracker” of a storyline and was taking the next steps with Channel Nine for the reboot.

But our dreams of the Drover girls reuniting on the farm some day is officially dead.

Guess we’ll just have to watch McLeod’s reruns for the rest of our lives…

Posie took to Facebook to share the devastating news.

She wrote: “Sequels are tricky things – there’s so much at stake, so much passion involved in re-creating something we all know and love so much. However, here I am writing this post to you to let you know that our negotiations with the Nine Network in Australia and a third party, introduced to us by Nine – and for whom the Sequel mini-series would have been made, as it turned out – have now concluded because we’ve pulled out.”

Posie explained that creative differences led to the breakdown.

She continued: “We feel that our potential new partners and ourselves turned out to see ‘McLeods’ very differently; and, we were concerned that the tone and substance of the sequel story might alter too much from what people love about the series – and what they expect, too. This was not something we felt we could agree to. And, also, we didn’t want to let you down.

“So, as of last week, we have respectfully declined to move forward with further negotiations.”

And we thought Claire McLeod dying was the most heartbreaking thing to happen to Aussie TV!

McLeod’s star Simmone Jade Mackinnon, who played Stevie, shared her thoughts on the sad news. “It seems that McLeod’s Daughters has officially been laid to rest,” she wrote on Instagram, with a broken-heart emoji.

So, while we won’t see our country girls back on Drover’s Run, at least this reunion of Simmone, Michala Banas (Kate) and Rachael Carpani (Jodi) will make us happy:
