Not only is one of the best holidays of the year arriving soon, but Whovians are receiving a very special gift this year – a Doctor Who Christmas special titled, ‘The Church on Ruby Road’.
The countdown has officially begun for the Dr Who special episode, which is set to release December 25, 2023, on Christmas Day.
Ncuti Gatwa will be playing the 15th Doctor.
(Image: Instagram)Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will begin his journey as the Fifteenth Doctor with his new companion Ruby Sunday, played by Coronation Street’s Millie Gibson.
The teaser trailer sees the pair meet in a nightclub, when Ruby’s life is turned upside down as they face their first set of monsters together – goblins in what seems to be a flying pirate ship.
The anticipation for Doctor Who’s Christmas special is only building, and given the episode is its first ever Christmas special its bound to be a doozy.

(Image: Instagram)For the 15th Doctor’s first trip to Tardis, producer Russell T Davies admitted he wanted to lean more into the fantasy-inspired realm.
“I was just a bit jealous that all those other shows were getting a bigger taste of the pie, so this Christmas the enemy is goblins,” he told Radio Times.
“The show is taking a sly step towards fantasy, which will annoy people to whom it’s a hard science-fiction show. Episode two next year is wildly fantasy. Completely making up scenarios on-screen that we’ve never been able to show before. But the following episode is proper hard science-fiction.”
Whovians are receiving gift after gift in 2023 after Doctor Who celebrated its 60th anniversary with three-part special episode which aired November 26, December 3, and December 10.
The special saw the return of one David Tennant, one of the most popular actors to have played The Doctor.
