I am one of those people who will happily rewatch their favourite television shows over and over again. And, as a fashion-lover, one of my favourites to watch repeatedly is Sex and the City.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that in 2021, I watched the reboot series And Just Like That.

Yes, even though it had some ~issues~ (which I won’t go into here), I turned on BINGE every single week and hate-watched each new And Just Like That (AJLT) episode as it was released.

And you can bet your bottom-dollar I’ll do the same for AJLT Season 2 when it premieres on June 22.

But ahead of the new season, using my expert-level knowledge of the original series and the limited information that was given to us fans in the trailer for the second season of And Just Like That, I am going to make seven predictions of what’s to come.

1. The new season will feel like earlier seasons of Sex and the City

I think killing off Mr Big in Season 1 was incredibly smart; sure, Carrie grieved for the whole season as she navigated losing the love of her life. But now in Season 2, Carrie will be free to explore the nuances of being single and focus more on her friendships, just like she did in the earlier seasons of Sex and the City.

2. More Lisa Todd Wexley and Dr. Nya Wallace

Lisa Todd Wexley, played by Nicole Ari Parker, and Dr. Nya Wallace, played by Karen Pittman, were fantastic additions to the Sex and the City universe. But I felt like neither of these new characters got nearly enough screen time in AJLT Season 1; and I know I’m not alone in that opinion.

Therefore, I think (read: hope) Lisa and Nya will both have bigger plotlines and be fleshed out more as characters in Season 2.

3. Less Che Díaz

There was a LOT of discourse online about the new character Che Díaz, played by Sara Ramírez, when the first season of And Just Like That was airing. Most of it was negative; many fans found Che to be ‘too much’ and a ‘performative’ ‘inaccurate’ portrayal of non-binary people.

Playwright Matthew K. Begbie even joked on Twitter, “Che Díaz is gonna get gay rights taken away from us.”

And so, I predict in Season 2 of AJLT, there will be less Che Díaz. Yes, the character will still appear; Miranda did dump Steve and run away with them after all. But I don’t think Che will be as prevalent this season to avoid more memes (and unfair personal attacks on Sara).

4. Samantha’s brief appearance will be one of the best things in the entire season

Samantha Jones’ absence was extremely noticeable in And Just Like That Season 1. And, I’m sorry, but I still don’t believe Samantha would run away to London and ignore her friend’s texts just because Carrie didn’t want Sam as her publicist anymore. Yes, I know they had to write Samantha out because of the whole drama between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker but I think there were better ways to do so… I digress.

The fact that Kim agreed to film one scene as Samantha for Season 2 is amazing and, I’m calling it now, the appearance will both fill the hole that was sorely missing from Season 1 and be one of the funniest and best things about the new season.

5. They acknowledge that the guy Seema ended up with is Carrie’s Prada friend

Seema, a wonderful new character introduced in Season 1 of AJLT, ended up sleeping with a sexy nightclub owner named Zed. But Zed was played by William Abadie, the same actor who played Tony – a Prada employee who’s friends with Carrie – in Season 6 of Sex and the City.

I’m hoping they retcon this in Season 2 and explain ‘Zed’ is Tony’s nickname and he quit working at Prada years ago because he bought a nightclub… Although, I won’t be surprised if the And Just Like That writers don’t fix this mistake. After all, Justin Theroux did play two entirely different characters, Jared and Vaughn, during Sex and the City‘s original run…

6. More deep cut cameos

Obviously, Season 2 will see the return of John Corbett’s Aidan Shaw; it’s in all the trailers.

But I predict that there will be more ‘deep cut’ cameos in And Just Like That. For example, Sex and the City fans (myself included) were simply delighted when in the first season of AJLT, Susan Sharon appeared. Who’s Susan Sharon? A character, played by Molly Price, who only ever appeared prior in the Season 2 Sex and the City episode The Awful Truth.

Hopefully, the writers saw the fans’ delight and added more obscure characters from the earlier seasons of SATC into the And Just Like That plot; personally, I’m hoping Dana Wheeler-Nicholson will reprise her iconic role as Laney Berlin – the pregnant woman who tried to strip naked in Samantha’s apartment in the Season 1 episode The Baby Shower.

7. Carrie acts like a problematic and horrible friend

This is absolutely a given. Carrie has been problematic and awful to her friends from the very beginning. And while she, the character, clearly changed in some ways during the off-screen period between Sex and The City 2 and And Just Like That Season 1 – for example, Carrie no longer uses her oven for storage and actually cooks – a leopard never truly changes her spots.

Case in point, in AJLT Season 1, Episode 3, Carrie completely glossed over Charlotte’s concern that Miranda may be an alcoholic (which, spoiler, she was). So I won’t be surprised if, at some point during Season 2, Carrie acts completely egocentric and uncaring towards her supposed best friends.
