Dreams were shattered last week on The Block when Leah and Ash cotton on to Brett’s plan to manipulate fellow Blockheads into giving him an unfair advantage that could see him win a Ford Mustang. Now, the pair are claiming they were the only team “playing fair.”

“Leah was more switched on than the others,” Brett, 34, tells TV WEEK. “I got a lot of easy votes from the other houses, but deliberately left House Two [Ash and Leah] until last, as they were close to us for so long and knew the games we liked to play.”

The Blockheads were tasked with the guest bathroom and redo room last week, when the drama shifted to the plans for Front Garden Week.

Because Kristy and Brett’s house is an odd shape, they wanted to put their pool in the front yard, which would make it far more extravagant than its neighbours when it comes to judging.

It just so happens to be the same week a cool Ford Mustang comes with the prize money, which Brett has been vying for since the start of the season.

Brett sets about recruiting votes in his favour – until an unhappy Leah convenes a body corporate meeting to remind her former best friends of the rules, alleging they’re breaking them.

The get-together sparks an explosive showdown between Ash and Kristy.

“The edited version will be nothing compared to what happened in real life,” Leah, 31, reveals. “Kristy speaking to Ash so aggressively was a turning point for me, because it meant I could finally wash my hands of that friendship.”

“Ash and Leah just couldn’t handle that I’d been blanking them for weeks,” Kristy, 34, says. “I’m someone who, if I lose respect for you, you’re non-existent to me. What’s done is done and I’ll never trust Leah again.”

Kristy and Brett have no regrets about their controversial behaviour, declaring they came on The Block to “stir the pot”.

“If we didn’t play these games, it [the show] would be very boring,” Kristy says with a laugh.

After these “games” exploded on The Block, the pair appeared on KIIS 101.1’s Jase & Lauren where they claimed many of the teams cheated to get ahead.

“We were definitely playing fair,” Kristy said. “I think the only houses that didn’t try to — well, besides that trying to scheme to get the Mustang over the line — we’re the only team that didn’t cheat.”

They proceeded to list examples where their fellow teammates had ‘cheated,’ including bribing tradies with alcohol to complete a job, Steph’s dad wrongfully working on-site and waterproofing being approved early.
