On Wednesday’s episode of The Bachelor, wellness coach Helena Sauzier was sent home after a tense rose ceremony.

While this is a little unsurprising due to her very awkward final date with Matt, there was one thing that we just couldn’t help but notice – and it’s the most relatable thing ever!

During Helena’s hometown visit, Matt downright forgot that the Mauritian beauty spoke French on the red carpet prompting her to have second thoughts.

Those second thoughts then turned into a self-deprecating spiral where the 25-year-old not only questioned her self-worth but adamantly decided to opt out of the “competition”.

“I know this has been an amazing experience, but I can’t do this,” she said choking back on her tears. “If I’m just nothing…”

While her family tried to convince her that she just had her “guard up”, Helena herself knew it wasn’t right.

“I think I know when someone’s into me and I just, I don’t.”

After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, Matt convinces Helena to stay – and she turns up at the cocktail party, ready to fight for Matt’s heart.

Now, fast forward to Wednesday’s episode and Helena has been unceremoniously kicked to the curb… and guys, we’ve all been there.

We’ve all been that woman where our gut has told us one thing but our head has told us another.

Where we’ve decided that “enough is enough” or “this isn’t working for me anymore”, only to be convinced by the smooth charm of our significant other that “actually, we do want this”.

We’ve all stated our case, trying to convince them that something isn’t right, but their ego holds on so tight that it doesn’t want to let go. And then BAM. It does.

And it’s their choice. Not yours.

It’s only when our partner is ready to say goodbye that we are let off the hook, even though we knew it was over.

Call it “breadcrumbing”, “gaslighting” or even “baiting” – it’s painful and confusing and can leave your head spinning in a million different directions.

In Helena’s case, she was certainly confused, causing Matt to feel “tested” by her.

But, in her defence, her heart was on the line and she wanted to make sure she was making the right decision.

Helena, we’ve all been there. And it sucks.

But if there’s anything we’ve learnt from these experiences, it’s to trust our gut – and as they saying goes: “If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.”
