Zara Phillips’ husband Mike Tindall joins Bear Grylls’ celebrity survival show Mission Survival

The Queen's grandson-in-law and former English rugby union captain Mike Tindall is set to star as a celebrity competitor in Bear Grylls' new show Mission Survive.

Mike, who is married to Zara Phillips, will appear along the likes of acting cousins Emilia Fox and Laurence Fox, Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, TV presenter Jamelia and Brian McFadden’s wife, Vogue Williams in the show described as an “epic 12-day survival mission”.

The celebrities will be “pushed to their physical and emotional limits” in a series of missions that test the “fundamental principles of survival,” like building shelter, making fire and gathering water and food.

In what appears to be like a Celebrity Apprentice, but for survival, each week Bear, 40, will eliminate one contestant after gathering intel from his advisors on the ground, survival expert Megan Hines and former commando Scott Heffield.

Of the show, which has already wrapped filiming , Bear said he was “proud” of how all the stars performed.

“This show is all about empowerment,” said Bear in a statement.  “It was without a doubt a tough expedition, but also a very life-enhancing adventure for everyone involved.”

“I was looking for qualities that a survivor in a real-life scenario most needs: positivity, resourcefulness, courage, determination and a whole heap of bloody mindedness!”

While the winner still remains a secret, athletic Mike, 36, seems like a good chance.

In a statement about the show Tindall said despite missing his wife Zara and their daughter Mia he was excited to get involved, calling it “an amazing opportunity and I feel so lucky to have had the chance to take part”.
