Prince William has been bestowed a brand new title from Queen Elizabeth II, and it’ll mean something a little different for the royal.

It has been confirmed the Duke of Cambridge has now added Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland to his list of very regal names.

The title means Wills will carry out a number of official engagements and visits on behalf of the royal family as the official personal representative to the Church of Scotland.

Several other royals have held the title before William, including Princess Anne and the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and 12th Duke of Queensberry, known as Richard Scott.

While William’s most well known title is the Duke of Cambridge, royal family members go by various titles depending on the events and engagements they’re attending and representing at the time.

For example, Prince Charles is known as the Prince of Wales for the most part, but whenever he is in Scotland on an official engagement, he is known as the Duke of Rothesay.

The Prince takes on the role after it was previously held by Princess Anne.

William’s title change comes amid the news that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will step back as senior royal family members.

The Palace confirmed that neither Harry nor Meghan would go by their HRH titles anymore, however, their new titles are still to be confirmed.

It was originally reported that the pair would go by the names of Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

But due a technicality, this reportedly caused confusion in the Palace, and they are now reviewing the titles.

While Harry and Meghan have formally taken a step back from their duties, it’s expected we’ll begin to see more of William – and possibly Kate as well – as they carry out their royal duties and work for their various patronages.

And in any case, we’re sure William’s new title will mean some extra engagements here and there. Bring it on, we say!
