Pre-2016, Prince Harry was almost an entirely different person.

The British Prince was undertaking many of his royal duties under the wing of his older brother Prince William and his wife, Duchess Catherine.

The Golden Trio, they were so aptly called.

Then, one Meghan Markle came along – and everything changed.

In a new interview, royal expert Katie Nicholl has further elaborated on a theme commonly referenced in the new biography Finding Freedom, which is set to reveal the inner workings of the Sussexes like never before.

Speaking to ET Canada, the former Vanity Fair royal editor said Harry had often felt like a “spare wheel” with William and Catherine over the years.

“He never quite fitted in,” she told the hosts.

Prince Harry reportedly felt like a “spare wheel” to Duchess Catherine and Willaim before he met Duchess Meghan.

But upon meeting Meghan on a blind date in 2016, which quickly turned into a fully-fledged relationship, Harry found a new voice.

“I think Meghan has very much been the catalyst in giving him that confidence to break free from William and Kate, and to break free from that trio dynamic, which was at times cosy and convenient, but actually wasn’t really what he wanted.”

She added that the famed actress was “very much a driving force” and that people should give her “more credit” for propelling Harry forwards in confidence.

You certainly can’t argue with that.

The Prince has been a driving force behind some big projects as his relationship and subsequent marriage to Meghan has continued.

The Duke has carved out his own identity within the royal fold, kick-starting his beloved Invictus Games, which is incidentally where he and Meghan were first pictured together in public back in 2017.

He has also spearheaded new global project Travalyst, which is a sustainable travel initiative launched in 2019.

The Prince has helped to launch a number of inspiring initiatives over the last few years.

The Duke spoke from his new home in LA this week about the initiative, urging the travel industry to rebuild in better, more sustainable ways in the wake of COVID-19.

“There’s a responsibility we cannot avoid or dismiss, we need to build back better,” he said in a candid video from inside his home.

Harry shared a video to shine a light on sustainable travel this week.

Of course, one can’t ignore the Prince’s boldest move of all, which occurred earlier this year when he and Duchess Meghan announced they would be stepping back as senior members of the royal family.

The shock statement was quickly followed by swift crisis talks and a mutual agreement with the Palace pertaining to the couple’s smooth transition into a financially independent life.

He then moved to Los Angeles with Meghan and their baby son Archie where they continue to reside.

It’s understood the pair will soon formerly launch their new foundation, called Archewell, which will host their numerous initiatives and charitable endeavours under one umbrella.

And with that, it really becomes quite clear – Meghan’s driving force was all the Prince ever needed to fly.
