Meghan Markle dipped her toes back into the royal world following the Queen’s sudden death on September 8, but the next time we see her will be at a glitzy red carpet event.

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly set to win a top award at the upcoming GQ Men of the Year Awards hosted in London, UK, where rich and famous guests from across the world will gather,

Insiders have told The Sun that Meghan is a shoo-in for the award, which will be presented on November 16 at London’s Tate Modern

It helps that the royal “already has a close relationship with GQ due to her friendship with Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful which is also owned by Conde Nast.

“Edward is very much seen as a friend rather than a business acquaintance.”

Meghan collaborated with Enniful for British Vogue when she guest-edited the September 2019 issue, which centred on the theme ‘Forces for Change’.

But could that connection really earn her a major award at this year’s GQ Men of the Year Awards?

Though the awards centre on men, women have been honoured numerous times in the past, especially in categories like ‘Heroes of the Year’ and ‘Game Changer Of The Year’.

Meghan may stand to take out the award for the latter, as she has been called a game changer on several occasions throughout her post-royal exit career.

“Due to their mini tour of Europe Meghan wouldn’t have been able to attend if awards went ahead on their original date in September,” a sourcesaid.

Last year’s Game Changer Of The Year winner was Dame Vivienne Westwood, the iconic fashion designer who has turned her focus to tackling climate change in recent years.

If Meghan does take the award home this year, we can expect to see her take to the stage and accept it in person according to The Sun’s source.

They claim the ceremony, which was originally slated for September 7, was pushed back to ensure the duchess could attend.

“Due to their mini tour of Europe, Meghan wouldn’t have been able to attend if awards went ahead on their original date in September,” they said.

Other reports suggest the GQ Men of the Year Awards were delayed due to the Queen’s death.

If Meghan does attend, she’ll likely be dressed up to the nines as she has been for other gala and red-carpet events since leaving the monarchy.

She also has a Variety Power of Women cover in the works, however the publication was pushed back out of respect for the Queen’s death.

It’s understood the rest of the celebratory covers will be released on September 28, but Meghan’s individual cover will be held until a later date.
